1. COORDINATE.

It’s important that you look like a couple! That doesn’t mean that you need to match each other, but rather that your outfits complement each other. This can be done through contrasting color, texture and pattern choices. Contrasting textures such as lace, leather, knits and denim can help to add visual interest. Try to choose smaller patterns and avoid large logos, that way your clothing won’t pull the attention away from your gorgeous faces!

      2. DRESS FOR THE SEASON & THE LOCATION.

In Southwestern Ontario, we are blessed with the ability to experience all four seasons in their full beauty! The time of year and your choice of location will also help you determine what you want to wear for your session. For example, if your session is at the beach in the summer, you will likely choose to dress in light and airy materials with sandals. If your session is in the spring at an orchard, you might want to wear neutral and pastel colours to match the soft coloured blossoms.

      3. LAYERING & OUTFIT CHANGES.

Dressing in layers can quickly give your images some variety and help to add visual interest. For example, you could be wearing jeans and a nice shirt for part of the session, then throw on a jacket or sweater for a different look. Please feel free to bring a change of clothes for an additional look where time allows.

      4. HOME DÉCOR.

Photographs should be displayed and shared, whether it is through a 11×11 album on the coffee table or through a 30×40 canvas hanging above your couch. If you are planning your session with the intent of displaying the images around your home, keep in mind your home décor and colors. Does your home have a vintage flare? Is it simple and modern? The way that you dress can help your images tie in with the rest of your home.

      5. BE COMFORTABLE, BE YOU.

The most important thing I want to accomplish while photographing your session, is that I want to capture you and your significant other as you are! Be sure to wear something that you are comfortable in (including your shoes) and something that you feel great in! These are your images, so please feel free to bring along things that help to tell your story, individually and as a couple. If you have a pet that is important to you, I encourage you to bring them along (don’t worry, I’m an animal person)! If you have a favorite sports team, bring along your jerseys to throw on over top for a few photos. The engagement session is also a great opportunity to try out your wedding hair and makeup before the big day!
